The Papua New Guinea Hunters rugby league team are drawing ever closer to a playoff berth after a comprehensive 32-10 victory over the Norths Devils in Lae.

Playing in front of a sell-out crowd in the Morobe Province capital, the defending Intrust Super Cup champions scored five tries to one to seal back to back wins for the first time in two months.

The Hunters record now stands at an even nine wins and nine losses for the season.

Michael Marum's side are one of four teams tied on 20 points but they trail the sixth placed Souths Logan Magpies, who occupy the final playoff position, Easts Tigers and Sunshine Coast Falcons on points differential.

It doesn't get any easier for the Hunters who host the third placed Burleigh Bears in Port Moresby on Saturday.
