Papua New Guinea soldiers train for APEC

Papua New Guinea's Defence Force has been conducting training exercises in preparation for the country hosting the APEC leaders summit.

According to the newspaper The National, Defence Force engineering battalion soldiers have been training a range of high-risk search drills in PNG's second city of Lae.

Operations officer Major Nukama Mote says it's part of upskilling soldiers to cope with bomb threats and other life-threatening situations in hotels, sporting complexes, shops and hospitals.

Twenty soldiers have been doing a similar exercise near Moresby.
