Israeli backed Innovative Agro Industries is milking 246 cows three times a day and this month has begun selling the milk and other products in the capital.

The cows are housed under cover in what spokesman, Ilan Weiss, says is an air conditioned environment.

Mr Weiss says after a second herd calves next month, they will be milking more than 500 cows.

He says this will enable them to corner a significant portion of the market.

"According to PNG government statistics PNG imports about 14 million litres of dairy products annually, so we could be capturing a third of that market with the current capacity," said Ilan Weiss.
