Fiji elections office enrolling students for 2018 poll

Fiji's elections office has started to enrol senior school students to vote in the 2018 election.

FBC reports students over the age of 18 at Suva Grammar Secondary School were registered to vote yesterday.

The Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, said the move was to avoid last-minute rushes to enrol before the election.

He said the students' exposure to the electoral system and political thinking would hopefully make them more comfortable to vote when the election came around.

Mr Saneem told FBC they had registered 20,000 first-time voters so far and the numbers were expected to increase following the campaign.

10 other schools were visited across the Central, Northern and Western Division.
