The leader of Fiji's opposition National Federation Party, Biman Prasad, has asked for the 2014 Auditor General's reports to be tabled in Parliament ahead of the new budget.

He has made his request by letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Doctor Jiko Luveni and the Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Mr Prasad says the 2014 Auditor General's reports are critical for the analysis of the state's expenditure policy in the budget as they would reflect the manner in which funds allocated in the previous budget were spent.

He says under the Audit Amendment Act of 2006, an audit report must be submitted to the Speaker within nine months of the year's end, or a longer period if agreed by Parliament.

Mr Prasad said the constitution states the Auditor General must submit a report made by him or her to the Speaker and must submit a copy to the Minister for Finance.

The NFP says so far Mr Sayed-Khaiyum has not responded while Ms Luveni says she is consulting on the issue and will not make further comments.
