Water crisis shuts Fiji hospital services

6:59 pm on 10 December 2014

Fiji's Colonial War Memorial Hospital is facing major disruption to services due to a major water supply problem.

Cancer services, women's health, dental and eye clinics are all currently closed or partially closed.

The Minister of Health Jone Usamate says the crucial services including the Emergency Department, Labour Ward and Operating Theatres remain open.

The hospital management and the Water Authority say they are working to minimise the disruptions caused by the intermittent water supply.

Up to 70,000 people have been affected by a landslide in the Savura Hills washing away two water main trunk lines following recent heavy rain.
