Remains of Mother Teresa to stay in India

India has rejected a demand by the Albanian government for the return of the remains of Mother Teresa. The Nobel laureate is buried in the city of Kolkata.

The foreign ministry says the ethnic Albanian nun was an Indian citizen and as such, is resting in her own land.

Following her death in September 1997, she was buried at the Kolkata headquarters of her Missionaries of Charity order, which has now become something of a pilgrimage site.

Albania is proposing Mother Teresa be reburied next to her mother and sister in Tirana, its capital.
