New Zealander Daniel Jack Kelsall has been sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison for the stabbing murder of Morgan Huxley in his Sydney apartment in September 2013.

Kelsall did not respond in the dock when his maximum sentence of 40 years and three months was handed down for the indecent assault and murder of Mr Huxley.
Justice Robert Allan Hulme said it was a terrible, callous and senseless murder but that it did not fall into the worst case category.
"This is a most chilling case of murder. Whether the offender killed for the thrill of it ... or as a result of a fantasy or an obsession, I am unable to say," he said.
"What I am able to say is that it was utterly senseless and needless."
Mr Huxley's family sat silently in court for the sentence, as did Kelsall's parents.
Justice Hulme said in Kelsall's sentence that his "prospects of rehabilitation are, at the least, questionable".

"He is not at all remorseful and continues to deny his guilt and he shows no empathy for the death of Mr Huxley," he said.
"The killing is rendered more serious by the fact it was committed by an intruder in the victim's home and while the victim was incapacitated."
He said Kelsall's actions must have been "the doing of a very disturbed individual".
"I am satisfied that the killing of Mr Huxley was done for no reason other than to serve some irrational purpose known only to the offender," Justice Hulme said.
Kelsall moved to Sydney from Wellington in 2012 and police said they had carried out checks into his past in New Zealand.
