Pro-EU demonstrations in resumed on Sunday, with at least 50,000 people in Independence Square.
President Viktor Yanukovich abandoned a deal with the EU in November in favour of closer ties with Russia.
Protests are now in their eighth week, but the BBC reports the numbers were lower during the New Year and Orthodox Christmas celebrations.
However, none of their main demands have been met so far.
