Missiles fired into sea by Nth Korea

5:13 am on 19 May 2013

North Korea launched three short-range guided missiles into the sea off its eastern coastline in an apparent test launch on Saturday.

The missiles were fired into the Sea of Japan, known in Korea as the East Sea.

South Korea's defence ministry said they were short-range anti-ship guided missiles.

Two missiles were launched in the morning and another in the afternoon, apparently as part of a military drill.

Tension on the Korean peninsula has subsided in the past weeks after running high last month when the North issued nearly daily warnings for weeks of impending nuclear war with the South and the United States.
