Tree-top protest in Taiwan

5:00 am on 8 April 2013

A tree-top protest in Taiwan against a development project is in its 11th day.

The government of New Taipei City plans to build a swimming pool and an underground parking garage in the grounds of a junior high school.

Despite objections from many people, a contractor started removing trees from the campus.

In reaction, a man climbed one of the trees on 28 March and has refused to come down. He has vowed to continue and meals and water are being supplied by his supporters.

The sit-in has halted work on the project.
