Ghost Wave: Auckland act Ghost Wave have been busy recording their forthcoming second album R A D I O N O R F O L K, which is due out for release early next year, and they’re also about to head out on a tour of the country to road test some of their new songs. The band play at Laundry in Wellington this Friday, before dates in Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown next week. They’ll round things off with one last show at Golden Dawn on August 21 and you can find more info over on their Facebook page.
Songs For Refuge: This Friday sees Tiny Ruins, Hopetoun Brown and Sal Valentine and The Babyshakes get together for fundraising event Songs For Refuge. They play together at Galatos and tickets are $20 from Under The Radar, with 100% of proceeds going to Auckland Women’s Refuge. Ha The Unclear: Auckland-based / Dunedin-bred act Ha The Unclear are heading to Wellington this Friday for a show at Bodega. They’ll be joined by Moses, Beatcomber and Hellier, the shoegaze duo who have just released their debut EP. There’ll be an afterparty taking place in The Burgundy Room and you can grab tickets for $8 from Under The Radar. And ICYMI, watch the latest Kick Out The Jams video with Beatcomber, below.
Rumble In The Jungle: Neck of the Woods is hosting the Auckland regional heats of the drum and bass DJ competition Rumble In The Jungle this Friday night. Now in its 12th year, the competition sees some of the most talented DJs from around the country compete to advance to the national finals, which are being held in Christchurch this October. Presale tickets to the event are available for $10 through iTicket and Real Groovy, with a $15 door charge if you miss out.
Deadboy Records 10th anniversary: Local independent alt-rock label Deadboy Records are celebrating 10 years in the game with a show at the Kings Arms this Saturday. On the bill is Saving Grace, Depths, Too Late, Prowler and Out Cold A.D., and $10 presales tickets are available to the first 100 people, with a $20 door charge on the night. Good Riddance: After wrapping up a show in Wellington last night, Californian punk-rock band Good Riddance play in Auckland at Galatos this evening. The band, who reformed in 2012 after a five-year break, released a new album Peace In Our Time earlier this year and tickets to see them are $35 and available through Under The Radar.
Lydia Lunch: Musician/poet/writer Lydia Lunch plays her second and last New Zealand show at Bodega this evening with her avant-garde band Retrovirus. Emerging out of New York’s no wave scene in the late 1970s, Lunch released her last album Urge To Kill back in May. Tickets to tonight’s show are $45 via UTR.
