Government agencies involved in supporting Māori language are working together so they do not duplicate research.

Māori Language Commission chief executive Ngahiwi Apanui spoke at a Māori Affairs select committee this morning and said they were focused on making sure their research was effective.
He said he met regularly with other chief executives to make sure they did not double up on research projects.
"Myself, Michelle (Hippolite) from Te Puni Kōkiri, Larry Parr from Te Māngai Pāho, Paora Maxwell from Māori TV, we get together on a regular basis to identify where our work programmes overlap and where we can work together and complement each other and research is a big part of it."
He said research underpinned everything the Commission did and was how it measured if its work was effective.
The government is currently setting up Te Mātāwai that will oversee all agencies involved in reviving the Māori language, including the commission and Māori TV.
Mr Apanui said the transition was going well.
