The Maori Language Commission is rolling out lessons in Te Reo on buses and says the language is starting to pervade every aspect of life in Aotearoa.
In collaboration with New Zealand Post and New Zealand Bus, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori has arranged for short video segments to teach passengers a new Māori word every week.
A spokesperson for the commission says the ads, which currently air on Māori Television, are being tried out on Auckland and Wellington pahi and will run for the next 40 weeks.
Gareth Seymour, of Ngati Hikairo, said the clips are just part of a wider movement to normalise the language, - and it is proving very successful.
Mr Seymour said other examples include the Gisborne District Council becoming the first official bilingual district with signs in English and Maori, and The Wharehouse using Te Reo on its fliers.
