A Northland school principal who's resigned from her post is questioning where Maori knowledge fits into the education system, which she says is being forced on schools across the motu.
Ms Milne-Ihimaera, of Moerewa Kura, has handed in her notice.
She has been under orders not to speak to the media since 2012, when the Minister of Education sacked the board of trustees and installed a commissioner.
She said the kura had been unfairly treated.
The school was recently returned to local management with most trustees appointed by the Ministry.
Ms Milne-Ihimaera had earlier spoken out against national standards and she said she stood by that because they did not lead to any more resources for struggling students.
She said the country's schools were being forced to adopt national standards and questioned where Maori knowledge sat in those expectations, and whether that was something that schools valued.
