Solicitor Donna Hall says the Maori Land Court will have to learn to work faster.
Ms Hall said she finds arbitration a quick method of resolving inter-tribal land disputes.
She recently represented a tribe in a case involving three iwi contesting mana whenua in Rotorua.
Ms Hall says the arbitration decision came out in less than a year, and the Maori Land Court would be unable to match that time frame.
She said the court is going to have to learn to go faster, and adds that competition is a healthy thing.
Ms Hall recently acted for Ngati Wahiao in a contest for mana whenua rights to Rotorua land.
