Mistakes costs NZ's top swimmer

4:00 pm on 29 January 2012

A mistake rounding the last bouy cost New Zealand's top open water swimmer Kane Radford any chance of victory in the third round of the Ocean Swim series in Wellington.

Radford was forced to return to round the bouy, handing the win to Australian George O'Brien... Radford was third behind Casey Glover.

As expected, Australian Melissa Gorman destroyed the rest of the field in the women's race to win and place 4th overall including the men.

Gorman, the 2009 world champion, was nearly three minutes ahead of second placegetter Emma Robinson from Wellington's Capital club.

The next round of the NZ Ocean Series is in Akaroa on February 19th.
