Civoniceva denies Gould fallout

Penrith skipper Petero Civoniceva denies he was pushed out of the National Rugby League club by general manager of football Phil Gould as he made the decision to finish his career with Brisbane.

Civoniceva's been released from the final year of his contract to rejoin the Broncos, with whom he played 10 seasons from 1998 to 2007.

There was speculation the veteran Test and Queensland Origin prop was part of Gould's cleanout after the sacking of Panthers coach Matthew Elliott.

But Civoniceva denies he fell out with Gould after they disagreed about the decision to overlook interim coach Steve Georgallis for the Warriors' Ivan Cleary, who takes over next season.

He says the decision's based purely on wanting to take his family back to Queensland.
