South Africans hold half of the titles in major golf and have half a dozen players who are being cited as potential British Open winners
In what has turned into a golden era for the country's golfers, Louis Oosthuizen set the ball rolling with his stunning seven-shot win in last year's Open at St Andrews.
Oosthuizen realises the quality of the field will make it tough to defend as with opponents such as Northern Ireland's US Open winner Rory McIlroy and Englishmen Lee Westwood and te World number one world number one Luke Donald.
Oosthuizen's good friend Charl Schwartzel won the US Masters in April and there are are 11 South Africans qualified for the Open with Retief Goosen, Ernie Els and Trevor Immelman all major winners.
