The Olympic and World shotput champion Valerie Adams has begun her 2011 European campaign with a victory over her fierce Bellarussian rival at the Bislett Games in Oslo.
Aucklander Adams threw 20.26 metres to beat Nadzeya Ostapchuk, who beat her seven times last year at big events but could only throw 19.92 metres at the Diamond League meeting.
Adams also won the final event of the year, the IAAF Continental Cup in Croatia, and had a solid start to the season with a best of 20.56 metres in March.
Ostapchuk won the most recent Diamond League event in Oregon last weekend with 20.59 metres.
Adams will compete again at a small meet in France next week, then again at the Diamond League event in Paris in early July.
