Novak Djokovic has extended his winning run to 43 matches after brushing aside the 13th seeded home player Richard Gasquet in straight sets to reach the French Tennis Open quarter-finals.

The next opponent for the red-hot Djokovic is the unseeded Italian Fabio Fognini.

Roger Federer was equally convincing with his straight sets win over fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka which gave him a new mens record of 28 consecutive last eight appearances at grand slams, beating Jimmy Connors' mark of 27.

The defending womens champion Francesca Schiavone produced another claycourt masterclass to reach the last eight with a straights sets win over the Serbian Jelena Jankovic.

Earlier the Russian teenager Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova toppled the third seed Vera Zvonareva, which means the top three womens seeds have all failed to reach the quarter-finals.
