The bowler Kyle Mills will miss New Zealand's opening match of the cricket World Cup with a back injury.

Mills complained of some back soreness during preparation for the first Cup match and sat out training.

Nathan McCullum has returned from hospital but the spinner may yet miss the Black Caps' tournament opener as he continues to recover from a fever.

India got the Cup underway with an 87-run thumping of fellow hosts Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Opener Virender Sehwag ignored an injury to smash 175 and set up the massive win, hitting his highest one-day score off 140 balls and leading India to 370 for four.

India then restricted Bangladesh to 283 for nine - still their highest total in a World Cup match in their fourth tournament.
