England Test player Bailey dies in fire

6:14 am on 11 February 2011

The former England cricket all-rounder and broadcaster Trevor Bailey has died in a house fire at the age of 87.

Bailey, who played 61 Tests during a 10-year international career, died early yesterday in a fire at his home.

Arguably his most famous innings came in the Lord's Test against Australia in 1953, when along with Willie Watson, he helped stave off defeat which enabled England to retain the Ashes.
