Thorpe's Olympic comeback still up in the air

Swimmer Ian Thorpe's manager admits Australia's greatest Olympian will need to make up his mind about a comeback pretty quickly as speculation builds over a London Olympic tilt.

But David Flaskas says Thorpe had not given him any indication that he would make a return to international swimming.

The five-time Olympic gold medallist had been tipped to make an imminent announcement about contesting the 2012 Games selection trials.

The rumour mill had gone into overdrive in recent months since the 28-year-old Thorpe was spotted training in a Sydney pool and Australian head coach Leigh Nugent confirmed he had been in regular contact.

After recently confirming he would try to add another chapter to his remarkable comeback story at the London Games, Geoff Huegill hoped his good friend Thorpe would follow his lead and come out of retirement.

But Flaskas says as inspirational as Huegill had been to Thorpe, that alone would not be enough to convince his star charge to prepare for 2012.

Thorpe would have to register for drug-testing by the end of May to be eligible to contest the London Olympic trials in March 2012.
