Black Caps happy with performance but know they must improve

The New Zealand cricket captain Daniel Vettori says the Black Caps are relatively pleased with their performance and progress in the drawn second Test against Pakistan in Wellington, but concedes without results there's little to celebrate.

Pakistan entered day five chasing 274 runs for victory with the Black Caps needing to bowl the tourists out to win the match.

However after losing several early wickets and with a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series the Pakistan batsmen shut up shop and the Black Caps bowlers couldn't find a way through their resolute defence.

Vettori says he was confident of forcing a result at the Basin Reserve after a solid second innings from the Black Caps improving batsmen but says at the end of the day a 1-0 series loss simply isn't good enough.

The Black Caps now turn their attention to the five-match one day series against Pakistan with the first game at Westpac Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
