Black Caps places up for grabs as domestic one day comp heats up

11:30 am on 12 January 2011

The second round of the domestic one day cricket competition takes place today with the defending champions Northern Districts on the road against Central Districts in Palmerston North with Black Caps aspirations well and truly on the line.

The Black Caps squad for the upcoming World Cup is named in a week and Northern Districts coach Grant Bradburn says his players Peter McGlashan and Scott Styris must be contenders while BJ Watling and Daniel Flynn could be a good chance too.

There are a few players like Jacob Oram in the CD side also with a World Cup point to prove but Bradburn's sure there's only one way to show your wares - and that's playing well right now.

Northern got off to a great start with a tight away win over Auckland on Sunday, pipping the hosts at Colin Maiden Park by just two runs and eight balls, which Bradburn says was very important.

Bradburn maintains there's plenty of firepower right across the one day competition and CD, who won the HRV Cup last year before coming up short in the final against Auckland this month, are not just a good Twenty20 side.

In other games today Auckland host Wellington and Canterbury travel to Queenstown to face Otago.
