The New Zealand tennis player Sacha Jones has come up one victory short of winning the US $25,000 (NZ $33,360) ITF Women's Challenger event in Traralgon, Australia going down in a three set battle in the final.

Jones took the first set 6-2, before Julia Glushko of Israel came back to win the second set 7-5.

The third went to a tiebreak, with Glushko prevailing 7-4 in the breaker.

Jones now heads to Bendigo for the final US$25,000 tournament of the circuit.

She joins the rest of the New Zealander's competing in the Men's Futures and Women's ITF Challenger.

Those in qualifying are still waiting to play their first round match with rain interrupting the schedule for the past two days.
