The New Zealand swimmer Natalie Wiegersma was forced to withdraw from the final of the women's 400 metre individual medley at the Delhi Commonwealth games.

Wiegersma qualified for the final nine seconds outside her personal best time and sought medical advice following the morning race after beginning to feel unwell.

According to New Zealand team medical staff, Wiegersma has a generic stomach bug and is expected to fully recover within 24 hours.

The bug has not been reported in other parts of the team and there is no indication where the bug may have come from.

The women's 400 metres individual medley was to be Wigersma's final event at the Delhi Games.
