The Ryder Cup golf captains Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin have banned their players from using Twitter or Facebook as Europe and the United States prepare to battle it out.
The Europe skipper Montgomerie and US counterpart Pavin said both teams had decided not to allow players to post updates on social networking sites like Twitter or Facebook during the Ryder Cup, which gets under way on Saturday.
Montgomerie confirmed Europe were also enforcing their own Twitter and Facebook ban, saying he wanted his men to focus on winning back the Cup.
Several high-profile athletes have recently fallen foul of authorities by posting comments on Twitter and European team member Ian Poulter regularly takes to Twitter to vent his feelings.
The Englishman recently engaged in a war of words with US golf commentator Johnny Miller on Twitter, accusing him of of talking bollocks after he had said Poulter was not a good striker of the ball.
