Routliffe and Dabrowski rise in rankings, set to defend WTA Finals title

New Zealand tennis player Erin Routliffe has risen to number three in the WTA doubles rankings following her victory with Gaby Dabrowski at the US Open over the weekend.

The pair scored their second grand slam doubles victory after beating top seeds Taylor Townsend of the US and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in New York.

The pair had previously won the 2023 US Open title.

Routliffe moves up fours spots to number three with Dabrowski is just behind her at number four.

Townsend and Siniakova remain one and two.

Routliffe was ranked number one in July 2024.

The victory earnd Routliffe and Dabrowski $1.7 million.

Since teaming up, Dabrowski and Routliffe have won seven titles. Among them are two US Open trophies, the WTA Finals and the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati last month.

This is their third title together this season.

Their New York victory also all but secures them a place in the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia in November where they will defend their title.

The pair are third in Race to the WTA Finals behind Townsend and Siniakova with the Italian Olympic champions Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini second.

Meanwhile fellow New Zealander Michael Venus has risen to 21 in the men's ATP doubles rankings after he and Yuki Bhambri of India reached the US Open semi-finals.

Carlos Alcaraz has replaced Jannik Sinner as men's singles number one after his victory on Monday.
