The Cambridge University rowing eight has beaten Waikato University in the ninth running of the Great Race on the Waikato River.
Cambridge, which had a more experienced crew, took out the nearly four kilometre race this afternnon by about four lengths.
Waikato University led for a short time after an explosive start, but after a crash and clash of oars, which put a small hole in the bow of the Cambridge boat, the visitors lead for the rest of the way.
Earlier in the women's race, Waikato University beat the University of Sydney.
