New SANZAR boss will listen to South African gripes

5:50 am on 25 August 2010

The newly-appointed head of SANZAR, Greg Peters, says one of his first jobs will be to placate disaffected South African rugby officials who've been talking recently about quitting the southern hemisphere alliance and looking north.

Peters says the establishment of a truly independent body will help defuse South Africa's grievances, and he notes that the country's players' union had backed southern hemisphere rugby in a statement last week.

The current chief executive at the Hurricanes, Greg Peters will start his Sydney-based job as SANZAR's first permanent head in November. The position was previously shared between the partners on a rotational basis.
