Defending NBA basketball champions the Boston Celtics club record winning streak has come to an end after going down 92-83 to the Lakers in Los Angeles.

In their first clash since last season's finals the Lakers held on to end the Celtics winning streak at 19 matches.

The Celtics are still the top team in the East with a 27 and 3 record while the Lakers top the West with a 24 and 5 record.

There was no Christmas day cheer for the New Zealander Sean Marks as his New Oreleans Hornets were beaten 88-68 by the Orlando magic.

Marks played 10 minutes for the Hornets and scored 2 points.
