Breakers beat Spirit

6:06 am on 19 December 2008

The New Zealand Breakers returned from a two-week break to score a club-record winning margin in their 114-70 victory over the Sydney Spirit in their Australian national Basketball League match at the North Shore Events Centre.

The Breakers blew the game open by going on an 18-point scoring run to start the third term, with the visitors failing to score on seven-straight possessions.

Phill Jones top scored with 24 points, while Kirk Penney had 21 and Tony Ronaldson 16.

Breakers coach Andrej Lemanis says the win and the way they played sets them up for a grudge match against the Wildcats in Perth tomorrow night.

The Breakers remain second on the table with a 14 and 4 record.
