Germany's big win highlights day two of

Germany's 5-0 drubbing of Costa Rica in Christchurch highlighted of day two of the FIFA Uder -17 Women's World Cup while a draw between New Zealand's Group A rivals Denmark and Columbia showed the Young Ferns can't be written off.

The European champions Germany lead Group B from North Korea who could manage only manage a 1-1 draw with Ghana.

Canada's win opening night win over New Zealand leaves them on top of Group A with Denmark and Columbia on one point.

New Zealand will go into Saturday afternoon's late game at North Harbour Stadium with a day more than the Danes to recover and knowing they showed in their one goal loss that they're still capable of reaching the playoffs.

Brazil and England start Group D in Wellington this afternoon then South Korea play Nigeria in what looks the tournament's toughest group.

In Hamilton-based Group C, the favourites USA take on Japan, while France and Paraguay round out the first round of group matches.
