Tataurangi to play Shirley, Sir Bob a Hall of Famer

7:19 am on 23 October 2008

One of New Zealand's top golf players, Phil Tataurangi, has been lured back to Shirley in Christchurch for the first time in 15 years to contest the $40,000 Charles Tour Shirley Open.

After limited starts and meagre returns this year on the United States PGA Tour, Tataurangi's looking for playing opportunities before heading to California in mid-November to try and qualify for the lucrative Tour again.

The women's entry is led by Canterbury's national champion, Dana Kim, who's just back from representing New Zealand at the world Espirito Santo tournament.

Sir Bob Charles will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame at a function at the Shirley Open's venue, the Christchurch Golf Club, at the end of the first day's play on Friday night.
