Van Gisbergen has won both of today's Supercars races in Darwin to match Brock with 48 career victories in the category.
His seventh and eighth victories of the year have seen van Gisbergen open up a 221 point lead in the championship.
The 2016 champion's nearest rival is his teammate Jamie Whincup, who finished third in both races.

Bucks overcome Nets in thrilling game seven
The Milwaukee Bucks have snatched a place in the NBA's eastern conference finals.
The Bucks have beaten the Brooklyn Nets 115-111 in overtime in the deciding seventh game of their semifinal series.
The two sides had finished level at 109-all after regulation.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 40 points, while Nets forward Kevin Durant led all scorers with 48 points, having played all 53 minutes.
Milwaukee now await the winner of game seven of the semifinal series between the Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks in the eastern conference finals.
The Phoenix Suns will face the Los Angeles Clippers in the western conference finals.
Three-way tie for the lead at Torrey Pines

Henley has carded an even par 71 in the third round at Torrey Pines to remain five-under par for the tournament.
He's been joined at the top of the leaderboard by Canada's Mackenzie Hughes and South African Louis Oosthuizen.
They are two shots clear of defending champion Bryson DeChambeau and Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, who carded the equal-best round of a day, a four-under 67.
World number one Dustin Johnson is tied for ninth at one-under par, four shots behind the leading trio.
Overnight co-leader Richard Bland has dropped down to a share of 21st at one-over par after signing for a six-over 77 in round three.
Germany bounce back and France held
Three-times European champions Germany shrugged off their opening game loss and announced their arrival as serious contenders at Euro 2020 with an emphatic 4-2 win over highly-rated Portugal in their Group F match.

Cristiano Ronaldo had given the defending champions a 15th minute lead but Germany went in at the break 2-1 up thanks to own goals from Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro.
The Germans turned on the style in the second half with goals from Kai Havertz and the impressive Robin Gosens making it 4-1 before Diogo Jota pulled a goal back for Portugal.
Elsewhere in the group, Antoine Griezmann rescued a point for world champions France as they came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with hosts Hungary in Group F and prevent a massive upset in front of a full house at the Puskas Arena.
Spain were again haunted by their inability to finish off chances as they drew 1-1 with Poland after missing a second-half penalty to leave their hopes of making the knockouts hanging in the balance.

Verstappen fastest in F1 French Grand Prix
Formula One championship leader Max Verstappen lifted himself into a league of his own as he beat title rival Lewis Hamilton to pole position with a blinding lap in qualifying for the French Grand Prix.

The 23-year-old, the only driver to go faster than the one minute 30 seconds mark, set the timing screens alight with a one minute 29.990 second lap around the 5.8-km Paul Ricard track.
That was good enough to beat Hamilton by a handy 0.258 seconds, with the Mercedes driver lining up alongside the Red Bull on the front row.
Four points separate the pair in the overall standings.

Defending champions into A-League grand final
Reigning champions Sydney FC booked their place in next week's A-League Grand Final as first-half goals from strikers Adam Le Fondre and Bobo sealed a 2-1 win over Adelaide United in the playoff semi-final at the Jubilee Oval.

Le Fondre put Sydney ahead from the penalty spot after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) overturned the on-field official's initial decision not to award a spot kick when Adelaide keeper James Delianov had clattered into Kosta Barbarouses.
It was the fourth goal in six games for the English forward, the leading scorer in the last two A-League seasons as Sydney won back-to-back titles.
Bobo doubled the home side's lead after a superb team move shortly before the break, stabbing the ball home after Joel King collected a fine pass from Anthony Caceres and put a teasing ball into the box.
Adelaide, who began the second half brightly amid blustery conditions, pulled one back in the 64th minute through Juande's wonder strike on the half-volley after Tomi Juric's freekick struck the wall.
Sydney, who are going for a third straight title, will take on the winner of Sunday's second semi-final between Melbourne City and Macarthur FC.

Saints and Sharks win big in National Basketball League
The Wellington Saints have bounced back from Friday's loss to the Hawks with a convincing 89-63 win over the Taranaki Mountainairs.

The Airs were kept below 20 points in each quarter by the stifling Saints defence, with only three Airs players scoring in double digits.
Leon Henry with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Tohi Smith-Milner 15 points and a career-best 11 points for Ezra Vaigafa lead the Saints to victory.
Meanwhile the Southland Sharks' poor shooting night didn't stop them running away 101-69 winners over the Franklin Bulls.
Courtney Belger was at the forefront of the Sharks' crippling defence, nabbing four steals to go with his 13 points.
Josh Cunningham was the most of the efficient of the Sharks' shooters, scoring a game-high 22 points at 66 percent.
