United remain one point behind cross-town rivals City and have played an extra game.

Sheffield's second win of the season still leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table, 10 points from safety.

Leicester City remain third after a 1-1 draw at Everton.

All White Chris Wood scored the winner as Burnley beat Aston Villa 3-2 at Turf Moor.

Burnley's sixth win of the season keeps them 15th, but them move ten points away from the relegation zone. Villa are 10th.

Thomas Tuchel's first match in charge of Chelsea ended in a drab 0-0 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A day after replacing Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge hotseat Tuchel was left with much to ponder as his side dominated possession but offered little goal threat.

Chelsea are up to eighth.

Brighton and Fulham drew 0-0.

The homeside, lead by young stars Issac Humphries and Josh Giddey, were quick out of the blocks and led throughout to score their second win over the Breakers in five days.

The Breakers were behind by six at half time.

Finn Delany (19 points) and the Webster brothers, Corey (17) and Tai (15), were the best for the Breakers.

The Breakers got within a point midway through the third quarter before the homeside drew away again with Humphries finishing with 21 points and Giddey 13.

"We were very unhappy with this game," Breakers coach Dan Shamir said. "We got back into the game but couldn't finish the comeback.

"Overall, we couldn't establish any rhythm and flow. We have a lot of work to do."

The Breakers sit winless at the bottom of the table with their next game against Perth this weekend.

Marshall to play for bunnies?

Kiwi rugby league great Benji Marshall is in talks with South Sydney about playing one more year in the NRL.

NRL.com is reporting that Marshall is set to be reunited with coach Wayne Bennett, whom he played for in Brisbane in 2017.

Should Marshall take the paddock this season he would become the 10th player of the NRL era to play past his 36th birthday, and the oldest in this year's competition provided Cameron Smith does not play on.

Wests Tigers informed Marshall last September that he would not be offered a deal for this coming season.

Linking with South Sydney would result in Marshall turning out for his fourth NRL club after the Tigers (two stints), St George Illawarra and Brisbane across 18 seasons.

With 324 NRL appearances, he requires eight more games to move past Adam Blair as the most-capped New Zealander in premiership history.

Pakistan in front

Pakistan's Fawad Alam hit his third Test century as Pakistan established an 88-run lead on the second day of the first cricket Test against South Africa.

Fawad, who returned to Pakistan's squad in 2019 after more than a decade-long absence, reached 109 off 245 balls as the hosts made 308 in Karachi.

Pakistan started the day on 33 for four.

But Azhar Ali and Faheem Ashraf both made 50s as Pakistan recovered to surpass South Africa's opening day 220.

The two-match series marks South Africa's first trip to Pakistan in 14 years, after a deadly 2009 attack on Sri Lanka's team halted visits by foreign sides.

Israel to vaccinate athletes

Israel intends to have all its athletes due to compete at the Tokyo Olympics vaccinated against Covid-19 by May, its National Olympic Committee said, amid global debate over whether athletes should be given priority access in the rollout.

Global coronavirus cases surpassed 100 million today, according to a Reuters tally, as countries around the world struggle with new virus variants and vaccine shortfalls.

Israel, however, currently leads the world on per capita vaccinations, having inoculated 29% of its population with at least one dose.

Much of Japan is under a state of emergency due to a third wave of Covid-19 infections, but organisers have vowed to press ahead with the Games, which are due to open on July 23 after being postponed for a year because of the pandemic.

Some countries are hesitant to prioritise athletes over those more in need of the vaccine.

Paris Olympics will go ahead as scheduled

The 2024 Paris Olympics will go ahead as scheduled regardless of the fate of this year's Summer Games in Tokyo amid the Covid-19 crisis, the French organising committee said.

Last week, Japan and the International Olympic Committee recommitted to holding the Olympics this year, denying a British media report that the government had privately concluded the Games would have to be cancelled.

As Japan declared a state of emergency following a record number of COVID-19 cases earlier this month, British four-time Olympic gold medallist Matthew Pinsent called for the Tokyo Games, already postponed by a year, to be held in 2024.

Paris Games chief Tony Estanguet insisted the Paris Olympics would not be moved.

"If I stick to the discussions with the IOC, I don't have the impression that there will be another postponement," he explained.

The IOC held an executive board meeting in Switzerland today.

Groenewegen received death threats

Dutch cyclist Dylan Groenewegen said he and his family needed police protection after receiving death threats for causing the crash that resulted in compatriot Fabio Jakobsen being placed in a medically induced coma in August.

Groenewegen, who rides for the Jumbo-Visma team, was jostling for position with Jakobsen in the final metres of the Tour of Poland's first stage when they came together.

Jakobsen, 24, crashed into the barriers and collided with a race official. He was taken to hospital and underwent facial surgery but is now back on his bike.

Groenewegen, who apologised for the crash, was handed a nine-month suspension by cycling's world governing body in November.

"There were such concrete and serious threats that we called the police a few days after the crash," Groenewegen told Dutch magazine Helden.

"The following days and weeks the police guarded our door. We could not spontaneously leave the house. We received handwritten letters in the mail, in which even a noose was added with which we could hang our child.

"Of course (the threats) affect you. The most crazy things go through your head. Getting out of bed in the morning was quite a challenge in that period."

Condensed marathon schedule confirmed

The Boston Marathon, cancelled last year for the first time in its history due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be held on Oct. 11 as long as road races are allowed under the Massachusetts reopening plan.

All six marathon majors scheduled this year will now be condensed into a six-week window, starting with the Berlin Marathon on Sept. 26 and ending with the New York City Marathon on Nov. 7 while the Olympics races will be held on Aug. 7-8.

The field size for the world's most prestigious marathon, which generally draws over 30,000 runners from all over the world, will be forthcoming, the Boston Athletic Association said.

The Boston Marathon, which extends from the suburb of Hopkinton to downtown Boston, had been held annually since 1897 until it was cancelled in 2020.
