Latest - Ford star Scott McLaughlin remains on track to secure successive Supercars championships despite being upstaged in the Gold Coast 600's opening race.

Runaway series leader McLaughlin was finally reeled in by the Supercars' field on the tourist strip, with Jamie Whincup claiming Saturday's 300km race one just 0.52 of a second ahead of fellow Holden driver Shane van Gisbergen.
McLaughlin - boasting a record 18 wins this season - finished in the unfamiliar position of third.
However, McLaughlin can still clinch the 2019 title with two rounds remaining if he walks away from Sunday's 300km event holding a 600-point series lead over van Gisbergen.
Red Bull Racing (RBR) gun van Gisbergen whittled away McLaughlin's championship lead from 622 to 613 points by finishing ahead of him on Saturday.

Man City close gap at top
Manchester City closed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to three points with a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, while a hat-trick by American Christian Pulisic helped steer Chelsea to a 4-2 victory at Burnley.
Goals from Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Guendogan lifted the title holders City above Leicester, who had jumped them with a 9-0 thrashing of Southampton on Friday.

Verstappen takes Mexican Grand Prix pole
Mexico City Red Bull's Max Verstappen has claimed pole position for the Mexican Grand Prix while Lewis Hamilton will attempt to secure his sixth Formula One world title from fourth on the grid.
Verstappen posted a best 1 minute 14.758 seconds around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City for the second pole of his career.
Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel were next for Ferrari, 0.266 and 0.412 seconds behind respectively.
Hamilton will clinch the drivers' championship if he outscores Bottas, who crashed on his final qualifying lap, by 14 points this weekend.

Woods sneaks two shots clear in Japan
Silence was golden for Tiger Woods as he carded a second straight six-under par 64 to grab a two-shot second-round lead over Jeff Woodland at the Zozo Championship.
On a day when spectators were not allowed on the premises due to what the PGA Tour said were unsafe conditions, Woods went about his business in front of an eerily quiet Narashino Country Club.
With birdies at the final two holes, Woods jumped clear of fellow American Woodland, posting a 12-under 128 halfway total in the rain-affected event that will not finish until Monday.
Woodland shot 66 for second place at 10-under.
New Zealand's Danny Lee is in an eight-way tie for ninth, 7 shots off the pace.
Meanwhile, Lydia Ko is in a seven way tie for 12th at the BMW ladies championship in Korea, five shots off the pace set by Korea's Somi Lee.

Joy for Tasman
Tasman have won their maiden national provincial title after overpowering Wellington 31-14 in Nelson last night in the Mitre 10 Cup Premiership final.
They are the first team since Auckland in 2007 that have gone through the campaign unbeaten.
Tasman looked to be heading for a comfortable win but a strong defensive Wellington effort allowed them to claw their way back.
In the end it was one of Tasman's most inspirational players second five-eighths Alex Nankiville who finally sealed the win when making a crucial 78th minute break from within his own half before setting up wing Will Jordan for his second try to end the contest.
Earlier, North Otago won their first Meads Cup since 2010 after they ended Wanganui's six game winning streak, 33-19 in the Heartland Championship.

Melbourne Utd grind down Breakers in NBL
Melbourne United have recorded their first win of the NBL season with a thrilling 104-98 comeback victory over the New Zealand Breakers.
It took a 26-17 final quarter from the home side on Saturday to grind down the visitors and ease the pressure on last season's grand finalists.
United relied on their star power with Shawn Long (27 points, 11 rebounds), Melo Trimble (24, six assists) and Chris Goulding (24, five three- pointers) steering the side home.
United came up big in crunch time with Trimble's clutch free throws giving his side a 102-98 lead with 15 seconds to play.
Long iced the game from the charity stripe after a missed three-pointer from New Zealand's NBL Next Star RJ Hampton.
The Breakers led by 12 points in the second quarter with Brandon Ashley (24 points, seven rebounds) and Corey Webster (17) leading the way.
But New Zealand cooled off from three-point range in the second half as United roared home in the final quarter.
