The Stars ended the Steel's three year unbeaten run in Invercargill with a 56-53 win and will now play the Pulse in the final on Monday in Porirua.
Just a week ago the Stars fell to the Steel by 17 goals.
But a giant defensive effort by veteran Leana de Bruin and partner Storm Purvis helped the Auckland side turn things around with shooter Maia Wilson on song in the goal circle with 43 goals from 45 attempts.
Meanwhile two-time world champion Caitlin Bassett will lead a new-look Australia squad at the netball World Cup in England in July with vice-captain Gabi Simpson and midcourt star Kim Ravaillion.
The team includes only three players from the triumphant 2015 campaign in Bassett, Caitlin Thwaites and Paige Hadley, with nine new faces.
NSW Swifts defender Sarah Klau is set to make her international debut.

The defending champion Rafa Nadal has eased into the third round of the French with a straight sets win over German qualifier Yannick Maden.
Nadal is chasing a record-extending 12th title at Roland Garros and plays Belgian David Goffin next.
Roger Federer also had a straight sets win.
In the women's draw former champion Garbine Muguruza cantered past Swede Johanna Larsson 6-4 6-1 in her second round match.
Last year's runner-up Sloane Stevens and second seed Karolina Pliskova also posted straight sets wins to advance to round three.
Europa League final: Chelsea hammer Arsenal
Chelsea have hammered their London rivals Arsenal 4-1 to win football's Europa League.
Two goals from Eden Hazard, possibly making his last appearance for the Blues, and one apiece for Olivier Giroud and Pedro guided Chelsea to victory.
Chelsea destroyed Arsenal with four second-half goals that handed coach Maurizio Sarri his first major trophy although even that might not be enough to silence the speculation that he could also be leaving Stamford Bridge imminently.
