New Zealander Scott Dixon finished 13th and is now third in the championship behind Josef Newgarden and Herta.

The next round is in Alabama in a fortnight.

Win for New Zealand tennis player

New Zealand's top ranked women's tennis player Paige Hourigan has won her second ITF tennis title.

Hourigan beat Colombian second seed Maria Camila Osorio Serrano 6-4 6-3 to win the ITF tournament in Cancun in Mexico.

The 4th seeded Kiwi avenged a straight sets defeat by her opponent in 2017.

It's Hourigan's second ITF title following her breakthrough win in Portugal last July.

Meanwhile after waiting several days for their first round match at the Miami Open, Kiwi Michael Venus and his South African doubles partner Raven Klaasen have been sent crashing out in the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

The 6th seeds have lost 6-4 6-3 to Dutchman Matwe Middelkoop and Argentine Diego Schwartzman.

Australia beat Pakistan again

Australia cruised to a comfortable eight-wicket win over Pakistan in the second one-day cricket international in Sharjah thanks to a record opening stand by centurion Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja.

Finch, who hit 116 in the first game, followed it up with a career-best unbeaten 153, including 11 boundaries and six sixes, while Khawaja missed out on what would have been his third century of the month, scoring a patient 88 off 109 as Australia took a 2-0 lead in the series.

The pair put on 209, a record opening stand for Australia while chasing in ODIs which bettered Mark Waugh's and Adam Gilchrist's partnership of 206 against West Indies in 2001.

Pakistan had won the toss and skipper Shoaib Malik elected to bat first, setting Australia a target of 285 to win, anchored by Mohamed Rizwan's maiden ODI century.

The win was Australia's fifth in a row after their 3-2 comeback in the series in India earlier this month.

The third match of the five-match series will be played on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.

Germany score late to win

Germany have snatched a late winner in the Netherlands in their opening EURO 2020 qualifier while World Cup finalists Croatia were stunned by Hungary in Budapest and Belgium won in Cyprus.

Germany grabbed a 3-2 win over the Dutch who had come from 2-0 down at halftime of their Group C encounter in Amsterdam.

Northern Ireland beat Belarus 2-1 in Belfast to make it two wins in as many games top top Group C.

Croatia suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at Hungary as Wales won their Group E opener to be one of four teams on three points.

Wales began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Slovakia in Cardiff.

Eden Hazard marked his 100th cap with an early goal to set Belgium on their way to a comfortable 2-0 away win over Cyprus.

Russia eased to a 4-0 victory over Kazakhstan with two goals from Denis Cheryshev while Scotland toiled to beat San Marino 2-0.

St Kents to stand down players

Ten other schools had threatened to boycott their games against St Kentigern because of the schools excessive player recruitment.

An independent review has found that the school did engage in the practice, but that a boycott by other colleges was not in the best interest of players.

St Kentigern will not play their new-to-school players from outside of Auckland for the first six games of the 2019 tournament and that they will not be available for any play-off games.

First up win for Boult's Capitals

Trent Boults' Delhi Capitals have won their opening game in the Indian Premier League beating the Mumbai Indians by 37 runs.

Boult took a wicket as Mumbai were bowled out for 176 in their chase for 214.

Earlier Mitchell McClenaghan took 3 wickets for Mumbai.

Australian cricketer David Warner hit 85 off 53 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad as he returned to the Indian Premier League.

Warner was barred from last year's IPL having been hit with a 12-month ban from international cricket for his role in the Cape Town ball-tampering scandal along with Steve Smith.

Warner was omitted from Australia's one-day squad for the ongoing series against Pakistan even though he was eligible for the last two games and time is ticking for him to prove his form with the 50-over World Cup beginning 30 May.

His knock on Sunday went in vain though, as the Kolkata Knight Riders chased down the target of 182 to win by six wickets at Eden Gardens.

New Zealander Lockie Ferguson bowled four overs, none for 34 for Kolkata.

Warriors thumped by Tigers

The Warriors have been beaten 34-6 by Wests Tigers in their NRL game in Campbelltown.

Tigers star Robbie Farah ran rings around the Warriors as the home side scored six tries to one.

The Tigers go to the top of the table, while the Warriors, who put 40 points on the Bulldogs last weekend, drop to eighth.

The Warriors play Manly next weekend.

Mystics still without a win

Despite a final quarter fight back from the Northern Mystics they remain winless in the ANZ Premiership after a 52 to 48 defeat at the hand of the Tactix in Christchurch.

The Auckland side struggled with shooting percentages, Bailey Mes finishing on 59 percent and Jamie Hume on 38. The inclusion of 17-year-old student Grace Nweke just before half-time paid dividends in the end sinking 32 of her 37 attempts.

The last ditch effort was just short of a win but enough to pick up a bonus point - their first point of the season.

Another win for Reds

The Queensland Reds have scored their second win in Super Rugby, beating the ACT Brumbies 36-14 in Brisbane.

Fit again, number 10 Bryce Hegarty's precise long-range kicking gave the Reds a whole new look as they continually turned the Brumbies around in stifling in 33-degree heat.

The bonus point victory keeps the Reds in fourth place in the Australian Conference, while the Brumbies are a point ahead.

The final will be in Albany next weekend.

Brown and Lim win golf titles

Northland's Luke Brown finished with an eagle two on the 72nd hole to win the New Zealand Stroke Play Golf Championship at the Christchurch Golf Club.

After starting the day two shots behind Canterbury's Kazuma Kobori, Brown found himself with a three-shot lead with three holes to play. However, bogies on 16 and 17 coupled with a clutch Kobori birdie added immense pressure as they entered the drivable par four 18th all square.

After the two-shot swing, Brown collected himself to then produce the perfect drive and leave himself 20 feet for eagle to take home the title in front of a packed clubhouse.

Auckland's Carmen Lim claimed a breakthrough victory in the women's championship with a seven shot victory.

Lim has completed a near-perfect week with rounds of 72, 70, 69 and 69 (par 74) to enter the winners circle after many years of threatening at the top level.
