The cricketing great Imran Khan fears fast bowlers could become extinct if the international calendar retains its current congested schedule.
The former Pakistan captain and allrounder, who led his country to World Cup success in Auckland in 1992, says abandoning the 50-over game as the best way of ensuring the what he describes as the unprecedented stress on fast bowlers is eased.
Imran made the comments while giving the annual Cowdrey Lecture at Lord's in London.
He also said the standard of officiating at international level had improved greatly since his day with the introduction of neutral umpires and he says it will only get better with increased use of technology.
Imran says the spirit of the game suffered during this career as there was a lot of acrimony and when India played against Pakistan it deteriorated to unimaginable depths.
