Dean has carte blanche to push for stage win

1:36 pm on 17 July 2010

The New Zealand rider Julian Dean is now his team's best sprint hope on the Tour de France after the American Tyler Farrar pulled out of the great race with a broken wrist.

It's another blow for the Garmin team, after they lost their star Christian Vande Velde earlier on the Tour.

But with Farrar also gone, Dean can now push for individual sprint honours.

But Dean will have to wait for his chance at a sprint win, with another intermediate mountain stage next before the gruelling Pyrenees.

Luxembourg's Andy Schleck leads by 31 seconds from Spain's defending champion Alberto Contador.
