Adelaide will host the trans-Tasman netball grand final after they outplayed previously unbeaten minor premiers the New South Wales Swifts in a 52-38 major semi-final upset in Sydney.
The Swifts skipper and shooter Catherine Cox was injured, too, breaking her nose in a first quarter head clash with the English defender Geva Mentor.
Cox also corked a thigh and will have tests to ascertain her availability for next Sunday's preliminary final against the winner of tonight's minor-semi between the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and the Southern Steel in Auckland.
The grand final will be in Adelaide on July 11.
The Thunderbirds started nervously, trailing 3-0 and taking almost three and a half minutes to score, but after that they led by as much as 20 as the Swifts equalled their lowest score in the championship..
