Townley tops podium in second race

The New Zealand motocross rider Ben Townley has marked his return from injury with a win in the second MX1 race in the openng round of the AMA nationals at San Bernardino's Glen Helen Raceway in California.

Townley was knocked off his Honda in moto one then had a fall which damaged his exhaust pipe beyond repair and forced him to retire.

But he quickly took the lead in moto two, opening a large gap on the field and boosting his confidence for the second round round in Texas on Sunday.

Townley's eighth overall and another New Zealander, Josh Coppins, was ninth in moto two.
