Mixed day for Danny Lee

The New Zealand golfer Danny Lee had a mixed bag in the first round of the PGA Tour event in Kuala Lumpur.

Lee had a hole in one on the par three fourth, but also had a quadruple bogey on the par four 14th.

He's three under par overall in a tie for 26th and six shots behind the leader Bronson Burgoon of the United States.

It i Lee's third hole in one of his career.

Justin Thomas began his bid for a third CIMB Classic title with a six-under-par 66 to lie three shots behind compatriot Burgoon.

Thomas, the world number four who posted his first two career victories at the CIMB Classic in 2015 and 2016, birdied his last three holes to join 2012 champion Nick Watney, Briton Paul Casey and five others in a share of sixth place.

Burgoon reeled off eight birdies and eagled the par-five 18th for a sizzling nine-under-par 63 to lie one shot ahead of American Austin Cook.

Defending champion Pat Perez of the United States opened with a two-under 70.

Meanwhile Lydia Ko is in a tie for 11th after the opening round of the LPGA golf event in Seoul.

Ko fired a 2 under par 70 to be five shots behind the leader Nasa Hataoka of japan.

And New Zealanders Harry Bateman and Ryan Chisnall share the lead following the opening round of the Victorian PGA Championship.

Bateman's round was particularly impressive, presenting a clean scorecard in windy conditions.
