Selection dilemmas for Hansen?

10:14 am on 27 September 2018

The All Blacks coach Steve Hansen could well field a side against Argentina this weekend similar to the one that beat the Pumas in Nelson earlier in the competition.

However the selectors will also be wanting to give those who were part of the team beaten by South Africa the opportunity to right the ship.

Number eight Kieran Read and lock Brodie Retallick are both missing with the captain skipping this game to instead concentrate on the Springboks next weekend, while Retallick is still unavailable because of a shoulder injury.

Luke Whitelock could start in the place of Read with Liam Squire on the blindside and Ardie Savea at openside with Shannon Frizell, Jackson Hemopo and Vaea Fifita vying for places on the bench.

Richie Mo'unga started in the 46-24 win in Nelson, but he got off to a shaky start and the number ten position will have again been a key area of discussion for the All Blacks coaches.

Hansen will have had a plan for all of the Rugby Championship matches but first five may have him scratching his head a little more.

Beauden Barrett had a poor kicking game against the Springboks and Hansen may want to give him the chance to redeem himself in Buenos Aires.

Damian McKenzie isn't an option as he's returned home after a family bereavement.

He will rejoin the All Blacks squad in South Africa next week.

Sonny Bill Williams could well get his first run of the Rugby Championship, having recovered from his various injuries, and it would be good to see him partner Ryan Crotty in the midfield again.

A back three of Waisake Naholo, Nehe Milner-Skudder and Jordie Barrett would be exciting to see in action again.

The All Blacks team is named this evening with Sam Whitelock likely to be the captain.

The All Blacks top the Rugby Championship standings and can clinch the title with a bonus point victory this weekend.
