The Melbourne Storm's owners say the club won't be appealing against the wide-raging sanctions imposed on the club for a serious breach of the salary cap rules.
At a meeting with the club yesterday, News Limited's chief executive John Hartigan told the Storm players and staff they retained the company's support, but he scuppered the players hopes of seeing their 2007 and 2009 NRL premierships reinstated by emphatically ruling out an appeal.
Hartigan says the Storm salary cap indiscretions were at the most serious end, and the club will have to shed some big-name players to bring their combined salaries back under the cap.
