Laura Langman's Silver Fern career appears to be over with the midcourter re-signing with the Sunshine Coast Lightning for the 2018 Australian domestic netball competition.

Langman was barred from playing for the Silver Ferns this year after she chose to carry on playing her netball in Australia instead of joining the new domestic competition in New Zealand.

The 143-Test veteran was granted a special dispensation to represent New Zealand last year while playing her club netball for the New South Wales Swifts in the now defunct trans-Tasman competition.

When the trans-Tasman league split last year, Langman opted to play for the Lightning to improve her game, but that meant she missed out on playing for the Silver Ferns this year.

Fearing that top talent would leave to play in the new Australian league, Netball New Zealand stood firm on its rule that players have to be based here to be eligible for the Silver Ferns.

Last month the Lightning won the inaugural Australian domestic title and the 31-year-old has decided to stay with the club which is coached by former Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic coach Noeline Taurua.

It's a big year for Netball New Zealand with international netball and the lead up to next year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
