The Wellington runner Melissa Moon intends returning to New York next year to defend her Empire State Building stair running title.
The 40-year-old former world Mountain Running champion has won this year's race, completing the 1576 steps from the lobby to the outdoor observation deck 86 floors up in 13 minutes and 13 seconds.
Moon says before the race she was concerned about the squeeze reaching the stairwell but found herself in fourth and then caught the race leader on the 15th floor.
She says she had to be bit aggressive as she got past and then just kept the momentum going.
Germany's Thomas Dold claimed his fifth successive men's victory in 10 minutes and 16 seconds.
